After talking to a friend of mine for a solid few hours with topics ranging from hobbies, dreams, careers, school, traveling, and all the little things in between I am sitting here bouncing with energy. Every once in a while I am swept away by a trigger that sets off this mood to just go after what I want; to conquer the list of dreams I have tapped to my wall; to overall better myself. Moments like these I am overwhelmed and nothing seems impossible. So, to start this new journey off, I’m going to write down a list of goals to set into motion. I love lists annnnd this will be a nice reminder. Here’s to a good year that will not be looked back on in the late hours of Dec 30th with guilt and regret!
1. Be Creative.
Write. Write some more. Write everyday. Write when you don’t feel like writing. Write on post-it notes and slap them on every item in the room. Instead of going on a video game marathon of 40+ hours a week I need to start doing my ‘instant check-outs’ through my writing; seeing through the eyes of my characters and the stories I wish to unfold for my readers as well as myself.
C R E A T E. How about becoming some of the characters I love writing as? Or simply trying them out in costume? It’s been a two-year hiatus from any cosplay-related activities have taken place in the small space of my apartment. Two years too long, I feel. I’ve been tweaking this long list of desirable characters I wish to cosplay and this year is the year to knock out a few of them Completely. I’ve had a nice handful at a solid 80% completed for those two years and this year they will be seen at conventions instead of behind closet doors.
E X P R E S S M Y S E L F. This is always important. Expression is a big part of being human and can be touched by the senses we use. Luckily being creative is a wonderful form of expression. When I list this as a step my mind is set on expressing my feelings through communication with those around me and most importantly myself.
2. Never Give Up
“Never Lose Sight”. I wrote that down on my hand for a contest earlier this year as a New Year’s Resolution and I plan to stick to it. I won’t beat myself up if I walk through a fog and become tied up in something else. We are staying on two feet here. We are allowed to weave but not wander off the original path. Another “Never” to go by this year (and forever, actually) is to never say ‘never’. Anything is possible. The role-models and heroes I have aren’t perfect though they may seem like they are beautifully flawless. Every. Single. Person has struggled to get to where they are today. Life is an endless journey and every step is an accomplishment. We are looking towards tomorrow.
That’s all I can think up for the time being but I may come back to edit this post later. Or better yet, make a part II.
There it is! My January post. Packed and loaded with positive things to look back on.
