Tonight I am sharing a poem I wrote for my grandfather’s 84th birthday. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to attend his birthday and missed seeing him the last time I was visiting California, but this was written with him in mind. My grandfather has always been a very quiet man about his emotions but when I expressed my love for reading and writing it became a topic that flourished something between us. At the age of eighteen we now had a connection so solid between us. He introduced me to many of my now-favorite authors as well as was my go-to person whenever I needed someone to critique my work without worrying about a sugar-coated compliment.
I miss him greatly and hope I can visit him and my Grandmother very soon.<3

Tonight I look back to the days
Memories linger my mind like plays
From books by Conrad, Shakespeare, and Blake
I always treasure discussions we make
Your wise comments inspire me
To be the writer I wish to be
Grandpa, I’m glad to call you mine
As you are one of a kind
